Black Kids

I would reckon that only two of them are actually black, but that said, all of them rock, and then some. From Jacksonville, FL, these lovable scamps are big in the UK, and they’re about to be big here too, I promise. I’ve had the songs from their MySpace page playing on my iPhone for months, I’ve earmarked “I’m not going to teach your boyfriend” as a huge part of the new screenplay I’m writing, and I am here to report that this band rocks live too.

In fact, this is me arguing that they are better live. Not so well produced, not so poppy, but instead just a few kids, some of which happen to be black, trying to show you the best show of your life, or at least the best show of your week.

Everyone go listen to their music now. And, if you work at Neumos, can you please start the show at 8pm when you say you’re going to start the show? Okay, give me time to get a drink, have a conversation, so maybe 8:30pm… but 9:45pm? Not cool, Neumos, not cool.

I’M NOT GOING TEACH HIM HOW TO DANCE WITH YOU! HE’S GOT TWO LEFT FEET AND HE BITES MY MOVES… I’M NOT GONNA TEACH HIM OUT TO DANCE DANCE DANCE!

Who introduced you to this band? Was it Nathan? Why don’t you ever mention the people who influence your taste and introduce you to things? Or contribute to your creative pursuits? I’m not being bitchy – I seriously want to know if you realize that you don’t share or give credit.

Hey there, I just thought I would weigh in as the owner and booking agent about times. Doors are almost always at 8:00. The 1st band generally goes on between 9 and 9:30. We need to give time for people to get in the door especially on bigger shows. It’s not really fair to the opening band if they’re only playing for 50 people. The other issue that we run into ALL the time is telling bands when to go onstage and having them completely ignore us. It is Rock and Roll afterall and they don’t always like to listen to the authority.

We know people have to work in the A.M. and that is why we have moved most door times to 8:00 instead of 9:00 the way it used to be for all clubs.

Just thought I would touch base to give you a little bit of info and reasoning of why bands go on when they do.

Thanks for you support and look for the Black Kids to be coming back this Fall.

I share and give credit in real life, it’s just that occasionally, for one reason or another, I need to express that I’m a separate entity, if only on the internet. In real life, I do share, even my computer, which is occasionally a curse that brings malware on my machine, and occasionally a gift, when my iTunes fills with new music that I wouldn’t have otherwise discovered.

And Steven, thanks for the info, I was only kind of complaining. I work the early shift at an internet start-up, and because the show got started so late, I couldn’t stick around to check out Cut Copy. That, or maybe I’m just too cool for school.

Hmm, I think your reasoning is flawed. And I don’t get how sharing a computer is related – it sounds a little bit like repressed resentment coming out as justification.

The internet is Real Life and you’re giving an incomplete/edited picture of yourself here.

I think you can be more authentic.
