This Strip of Tiny Speakers Could Replace Your Entire Home Theater Setup
I’m excited about this, because I currently have no home theater setup.

So I got another e-mail from Netflix today, announcing that—on second thought—they weren’t going to be spinning off their DVD rental service into something called Qwikster, which is probably for the best. Man, I can only imagine if you’re just a subscriber who hasn’t been following this story as it has developed and you just keep getting e-mails from Netflix ever few weeks, it’s gotta be like “Hey, Netflix, I love you and everything, but you’ve got to lay off the drunken e-mails.”
Anyway, I’m glad my queue isn’t being split into two queues, and I hope they end up incorporating game rentals into the mailer service, because that’s relevant to my interests. Really, I’m excited to see what their next step is, because right now the best thing for them to do— since that they’ve raised prices and upset everybody—is to just start improving the content and service they give their customers. Justify this new price. Hopefully that means better streaming content, better social network integration, and free blowjays.

It was crazy. I was at a party—I’d never met her—and she was like, ‘Come sit down.’ So I sit at her table and talk for ten minutes, and she goes, ‘I think it’s time for you to leave now.’ So I say, ‘January, you are an actress in a show and everybody’s going to forget about you in a few years, so fucking be nice,’ and I got up and left. And she thinks that’s funny?

The Wright Stuff is a film festival programmed by Edgar Wright at the New Beverly Cinema here in LA. Last month he did it for the second time, and I had the fortune of going to two of the shows. I’m a big Edgar Wright fan, so it was a really good time.
On Saturday was a triple-feature of Wright’s first three films: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott PIlgrim vs The World. In between the movies Edgar came out, did introductions, and brought out special guests for audience Q&A. We got to see Simon Pegg, Lucy Davis, and about half the cast of Scott Pilgrim. The screening started at 7:30pm and we didn’t get out until 3:30am. It was a blast. The New Beverly is a classic Los Angeles landmark that looked like it might shutdown recently, but was saved by Quentin Tarantino. I got to see Quentin a couple of times during the night, he hung out in the back of the theater while we watched the movies, and he has a presence about him that is just unreal. It was great to hear his distinctive laugh ring out after certain punchlines in Edgar’s movies. Quentin also programmed vintage trailers that played between each film, and they were amazing.
We came back a couple of nights later for an American Graffiti/Animal House double-feature. It was great to see American Graffiti on the big screen, it really holds up. Then we watched Animal House, which I had never seen before, so it was cool to have my first viewing in a theater full of fans. The director of Animal House, John Landis, was there to introduce the film and give a Q&A, along with the film’s editor. Landis had great stories to tell and was very funny.
I remember being six or seven years old and watching the making of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, which we had on VHS. I would watch it over and over again, as John Landis would explain how he did all of the special effects. Seeing him in person, so many years later, was a very cool experience.
The New Beverly is a great theater and if you live in L.A. you should definitely get on their mailing list and go see some classic movies. Their ticket prices are very low (it was $10 for the triple feature and $7 for the double), and their snacks and drinks are even lower. You might even get to see one of your idols.

I wrote this thing about how even though David O. Russell is making a movie starring Mark Wahlberg based on the Uncharted videogames, that you know, they shouldn’t make that movie. Read it if you want.
